is it really true that you shouldnt go through informal recruitment if you dont know any girls in the chapter

yes informal is for people who are friends with a lot of girls in the chapter do formal in the fall

If you are interested and really know which sorority you'd fit in with, care about their philanthropy and have similar values, whether or not you already know the ladies in the chapter contact their president or recruitment heads and ask for more information. If you don't know anything about the chapters either do some research or go through formal to get a feel for each of them.
