do transfer students have a chance?

by:

I know, go into rush with an open-mind and everything. Of course I will, and I'm sure there are lovely people in every sorority, but I do feel like I would get along best with those in GPhi, Kappa and Alpha Phi after I visited. I'm a sophomore transferring from another school in Cali.

I heard, however, that those 3 cut sophomores pretty heavily during rush. How true is this?

Also.. what's the attire like during recruitment?

Being a sophomore it is much much more difficult to get into the top 3. Typically, at that point you'll only get into the top 3 if you have many close friends in one of them. Other than that you'll probably just end up with axo kd theta or adpi. or That being said, you being a transfer student gives you an advantage, as you haven't been at USD already for a year and the top sororities may be more interested in you. You'll find it slightly easier in your case to get into a top 3 sorority than the typical rushing sophomore, but just remember that a top 3 sorority isn't going to provide you with the best sisterhood.

Go to all the pre-rush events every sorority has in the fall. A lot of people go into the year assuming they know what they want but they easily change their minds. As a sophomore, you can also try to make friends with girls in sororities and see if you could actually see yourself fitting in with them. No matter where you end up, you'll have a great time.

As for attire, my best advice is to keep it classy without looking matronly. There will be informational meetings in the fall about the rush process and they will probably show you example outfits. Show your personal style and just be yourself.

Good luck!

I was a transfer student and I rushed this year so I can tell you what it's really like. You are looked at differently since you're older, but it doesn't mean you have no chance with top 3. You really should try to make friends in every sorority because that's the easiest way to make into top house. Give every house a chance though. Trust the recruitment process, you will honestly get into the house that best fits you.

For recruitment attire you'll need cute dresses for at least three of the days. No bandage dresses or bandage skirts, though. Remember class not ass.

Have fun and good luck!

I'm pretty friendly and will have most of my classes with people in my own grade (who are already in greek life) so I'm hoping to make friends that way. I'm assuming that regardless of if a person is a freshman or sophomore, if they are friendly, social and get good grades they should have no problem with rush. Is that a good way of thinking of it, or…?

Thanks for the responses, they are appreciated! Xoxo

It depends on whether you want to do formal or informal recruitment.... I went through informal and it was honestly soooo much easier. I'm a transfer as well and for formal recruitment I was on the opposite end (in a sorority) and I can only imagine how overwhelming it was for those girls. Not everyone does COB but it's best to go in with an open mind because you really never know where you'll find your home, I went to USD having a top two in mind but ended up pledging to a completely different sorority. For recruitment the look is feminine and cute and flattering (no club wear, etc.) but fashionable and semi-preppy but I'm sure your rho chi will explain the expectations for attire when you rush. :) Best of luck! Greek life at USD is wonderful regardless of any negative ranks on this site, I'm friends with girls in every chapter don't worry about being in a top house just go with the one that you feel best in, trust me. :)
