what is your opinion?
by: transferI joined Gamma Phi at Illinois and am now transferring to UVA because my family is being transferred to Virginia and UVA is a better school :) Anyway, from Greek Rank I can see that Gamma Phi is not a highly rated house, which is fine, but I'd just like to see what people's opinions are before I get there. Please don't exaggerate one way or another. I'm just interested in honest opinions. I still plan to affiliate if possible and this won't change my mind. I feel lucky because Gamma Phi is a great sorority nationally and I love being a part of it. I'm just curious.

Gamma Phi is in the bottom 2-3 at UVA (if you count Tri-Sig which isn't active). There's nothing essentially wrong with it, a lot of girls just drop them and they tend to get girls who were dropped from a lot of houses. A lot of people would say the girls are less attractive and more weird than other higher houses, and a lot of first years going through rush will drop out completely if Gamma Phi and the other lower house are their only choices left. That being said, their house is nice, the girls are nice, and of course there are pretty, normal girls in every house. I would personally say their house (and through descriptions from the sisters themselves) has girls that weren't set on going through rush and didn't see themselves in a sorority and were surprised to find their home at Gamma Phi and now love it. I hope that wasnt rude, I think that's the most honest perspective. I'm glad you're being open minded!

Gamma phi didn't have a disaster and they're not new, some sororities just don't have the "popular appeal" that girls (especially first-years) are looking for. The girls in gamma phi are absolute sweethearts so I'm sure you'd love them but people just pay little to no attention to them

Gamma Phi is a house filled with really nice girls. I don't know all of them but the ones I do know are really sweet. I saw someone said the perception was they were weird or not very pretty. But if you actually look at the girls in the house they are just as many pretty ones as in other houses. And there are weird ones in all the houses too. I think these things just get passed down as if they were true stories instead of just being stereotypes or put downs.

First of all, I hope you don't get into this school, because clearly you are STUPID. Why would you come onto Greekrank and give identifying information about your self to the whole world? If I were in the sisterhood of Gamma Phi Beta, I wouldn't even take you here at this school. Also, it is really rude to subject your sisters to ridicule on Greekrank. Why not just call the national headquarters or the house itself. You are a complete idiot.

I was just excited about coming to UVA and wanted to know more about the girls I hope will be my sisters. I didn't want the kind of information you could get from international headquarters, I wanted info like the fact that they're sweethearts and just don't have popular appeal. I wouldn't feel comfortable in a house like some at my school with no sisterhood, girls stealing from one another, a culture of drinking too much and having boyfriends practically living there. I hope that doesn't mean they won't want me and I didn't intend to be an idiot. Also, I don't know now if the transfer is even going to happen. Sorry if I offended anyone.
