The tiers don't really change very much. As much as everyone might say X is going down hill and Y is on the rise, it takes more than one or two PCs to really change the standings. UVA is a school that covets tradition, and greek life is no exception.
The basic breakdown (which is based on status and looks because, realistically, these are the characteristics that anyone who cares about "rankings" is really concerned with), with the intra-tier rankings being a bit more subjective, is as follows:
Top:
Kappa, Theta: MoneyMoneyMoney, traditionally most desirable
Tri-Delt, PiPhi: More based on personality and looks, while still taking money and status into account, very desirable
Upper:
DG, APhi, DZ: Generally very good looking, fun, and money/status are more or less irrelevant, desirable
Middle:
KD, ZTA, AXO, XO, SK: Varying degrees of attractiveness and fun, money/status irrelevant, all solid houses
Lower:
SDT, ADPi, GPhi: Sometimes have a handful attractive girls, but very little emphasis put on looks or status
Bottom:
TriSig: Tri Sig, sadly, is on a tier of its own. Unfortunately their consistently declining reputation has compounded the group's problems, as at this point they have difficulty getting pledges. Their future on campus is uncertain.
These rankings certainly shouldn't reflect poorly on any house, as not every girl who rushes is concerned with the attractiveness or wealth of her sisters and most girls in the upper-most houses genuinely love their sorority.

Just curious. Why are the low ranks so bad? Are they just quiet or? I was thinking about rushing, but this makes me nervous.

Sorry, as much I like AXO...I agree with seriously. AXO still has a LONG way to go before it knocks out DZ or ZTA out of the top mid-tier. Heck, it has a way to go before it can even think of knocking out SK out of the mid-tier...

all legacies will have extra consideration, but not guaranteed a spot depending on whether or not you fit in with the girls
