Can anyone give me an unbiased, truthful take on SERP
by: Question
I have the opportunity to join SERP, and from what I've experienced as a first-year rushee, it's been an absolute pleasure. The guys and house seem like a good fit for me. I also have a few other lower/middle-tier houses in mind, so I'm not tied down by any means.
On the other hand, I also care about reputation, which my research points to Serp's is not very good at all. I do not want to join a "rapey" fraternity. I have also heard some rumors of immense hazing, which I don't know whether to believe.
Can someone chime in on this and comment on the overall quality of the brotherhood, as well as reputation and Greek relations/involvement? Anything will help as I try to finalize my choices.

Honestly, SERP’s reputation isn’t great. The hazing rumors and the whole "rapey" label get brought up a lot, and even if they’re exaggerated, it’s still something people associate with them and there is probably at least some truth to them. That kind of reputation can stick with you, and it’s not something I’d personally want to deal with during or after college.
On top of that, I’ve heard that the brotherhood isn’t as close as they make it seem. A lot of guys I have spoken to like to neg on their brothers to make themselves look better, especially given their low standing and reputation. Their parties are also kind of known for being lame: bad music, not much effort, and they don’t really pull good crowds. That’s probably why they don’t have the best relationships with sororities either.
If you’re looking for a house that’s respected, homey, and happy, I’d say SERP probably isn’t the move. Even if the guys seem cool now, I think there are better options out there where you can have fun without the baggage or worry

Thanks man, this was a great answer. Do you have any insight on hazing? Also, are there any other "similar tier" frats you would recommend instead?
