coaches

Some girls do get coaches, including for "dirty rush" this semester. There was an article in the New York Times in 2012 titled "Pledge Prep, Prepping Students for Sorority Rush". UVA was highlighted. I think the girls who do have coaches don't talk ever about it. I hate to say it but your friends are also your competition. There are only so many spots in each sorority and everyone wants to get in a good one. It's a weird, stressful time. Not so much if you're content if you're above playing the status game. Good luck!

Of course some girls have coaches, but is it normal?

It’s really sad that you’re not confident enough in your own personality to need to hire a coach. I wasn’t dropped by a single sorority between RR and Philanthropy and didn’t need a rush coach or rush dates to help me with that lmao I just know how to have good conversation

You’re wrong if you think that a rush coach is supposed to have contacts at every house to help you get a bid somewhere. That’s not the point. A coach is there to help understand how rush works and do your best with it. It makes a difference in that regard, esp if yourself are connected or have friends already in sororities or have other advantages like rush dates, etc. I’m not a rush coach BTW.

Do NOT talk about:

Money, how much you drank first semester, ask what frats a sorority mixes with, boys. They want to get to know YOU and not how wild you party or the names/people you know. Girls can usually tell through casual conversation/personality, and also social media. Just be yourself. That is all.

Will I get cut from certain houses if they find out that I'm using a coach? I don't know how they'd know, but just in case they do, I wouldn't want people to think i'm "fake" or whatever

No one will ask you about your coach. A lot of girls have friends in sororitys, moms who were in sororitys or know SOMEONE who gives them the inside scoop. It's not a formal arrangement but it's a coach. Girls who do not have access to someone like that would do well to FIND someone like that.

DO NOT ask the girls you are going through recruitment with for advice. They are your competition in a weird sort of way.

Top tier coaches know how to conceal their tracks, just like top tier PNMs know how to be discreet.

Yes, that's always a possibility.

If using a "coach" to help you through an unfamiliar and odd process (rush) is wrong, then the system is rigged to favor girls with connections. Most girls in top tiers have connections. The few girls who get bids who do not have connections probably have a coach but would never admit it.

Only you know if you need a coach. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. But I wouldn't advertise it. Seems you're going to be judged.
