For most sororities now, legacy status will only help get you through round robins. My sorority has a few legacies in the new PC but that’s because we really wanted them

It won't even get you through that now. If you have a sitting sister in a chapter and you want that chapter then you're probably good, but sisters don't always want to end up together. In fact, it's a nice little coupe to end up with another house's sitting legacy.

most sororities changed their legacy policy nationally as a result of the BLM movement in 2020. in an attempt to prevent the exclusion of diverse PNMs, legacy policies were largely removed to encourage chapters to recruit girls for personality as opposed to legacy status (which overwhelmingly benefits wealthy white PNMs). some very southern chapters/schools obviously still individually value it heavily but here at UVA its really not going to help you at all now considering it wasn’t even a huge factor before national changes

It had absolutely nothing to do with BLM. National sororities had been looking at their legacy policies for for some years now. The main reason being that the sheer numbers of legacies coming through these days, especially at some of the larger and tradition-heavy schools, were making it harder and harder for chapters to be self-determining in their membership selection. With required release numbers for each chapter each round, the automatic legacy invitation to first invited round was eliminating a corresponding number of other pnm's from consideration too early in the process for the chapters to even have a chance with. And the requirement for any legacy at pref to get placement at the top of the bid list was contrary to giving the chapters control over their own bids. The other major policy change was to eliminate required recommendations, because they had not only become an enormous burden to the chapters but also virtually impersonal and meaningless. Making membership more accessible to pnm's is a side effect that is much touted by the national offices, but it primarily benefits the chapters. Connections, who you know or who knows you, are always going to matter most.

Kappa does not value legacy. I know sisters cousins and daughters of members and founders dropped

considering I know a girl who’s an in-house legacy at kappa and she got dropped, kappa definitely didn’t value legacies
