the way it is: sororities
by: srat
there are 15 sororities here. no one thinks about it that hard placing srats in a tier of their own except people trying to move themselves up. this is how everyone sees it, order in tiers how most people would prob see it but could be switched depending on who you know:
top: DDD/KAT/KKG
upper mid: PBP/AP/DG
mid: AXO/DZ/ZTA
lower mid: XO/ADPI/SK
bottom: KD/SSS/GPB
does any of this matter in practicality? no. i know people in top 3 who have best friends in bottom 3. and middle 3 rows all cross rush and are friends with each other. you probably couldn’t really tell the difference if they’re not in letters. but this is how anyone not self-ranking sees it, no matter how desperately you want to say another srat had a bad year or that yours or your friends’ had a good year. and maybe they did but it’s not gonna change people’s perceptions in 24 hours. the only way someone really moves up is if they get good PCs, improve presence on grounds, and improve frat relations consistently AND someone falls, over the course of several years. otherwise as long as we have 15 sororities it’ll be like this

so yes for 90% of this but I’ve honestly thought DG was lame and the “try hard” srat for the three years I’ve been here… like when someone says they are in DG i have the same mental reaction as if someone said they were in DZ at this point.
Social interactions and shared date functions have just reinforced this.
This isn’t to say this isnt a good post, but the girls I have met in DG remind me a lot of other girls in the middle and I’ve just thought this for a while. Hard to tell the difference I guess from everyone else?

Why tf do fraternities play any part in sorority success? Why would smart, educated women in 2022 allow such a mindset? Is a sorority nothing more than a dating service? Are you proud that your letters determine your hotness to guys? Otherwise, why are you at UVA if you think like that? If anything needs to change it is this.

I’m not taking it out of context. Let me restate what you have said which is the following:
1) A sorority’s tier is determined by their reputation
2) A sororities reputation is measured by their social calendar and the party lists they are on hosted by fraternities
3)the opinion of men in a frat determine the party list
4) therefore, it’s men’s opinion that controls “tiers”
Nowhere in your statement did you imply sorority women’s opinion independent of reputation (defined by party lists) matters.
This is such a backward way of thinking, and it saddens to me people genuinely believe this. As someone who isn’t in a top srat but has really enjoyed my sorority, I have never thought this way or needed a party list to prove me or my sister’s worth or status.
Let’s just be honest with our selves and admit that the fact that smart women prioritize little frat boys opinions over their own opinions/empowerment and self worth is sad AF.
Not ALL Greek life thinks this. I am one of them. \n\n\n\n\n
