Second year COB

assuming this is about sororities - but almost definitely no. There’s a separate 2nd year + quota during recruitment, but there’s no such thing for informal (COB). In that case, sororities are almost exclusively going to offer bids to first years because they’ll be members longer (and nationals wants more money).
If you’re a 2nd year, this is likely one of your last chances to join so I would encourage you to at least stick it out to prefs with your options.

I have to disagree with the person before. It's true that they're more likely to give bids to first years over second years, but if you have connections to that srat, they might. I joined as a COB in my second year but I did have exec connections, which is probably why I got lucky. So I wouldn't say it's impossible and I'd have more hope about it than the person above, but I wouldn't expect it if you don't have any connections. Make connections first (the more, the better), but sticking it out to prefs will probably be easier.

@maybe did you get a COB during fall or spring? Because the OP is asking about a spring COB for a current 2nd year. Fall COB's for 2nd years are def a thing, but spring COB's for 2nd years are rare.

I don't think it's fair to phrase it that way. You shouldn't be using anyone to get into their srat, you're just getting to know them to determine if their srat is the one for you. I did know the girl on exec before I even thought about rushing, so for me it was a lot more convenient, we we already friends. But what I said is the truth: if you don't make connections as a second year, you probably won't be a COB (depending on the srat).
Here's a rephrase: You should be making genuine connections without using them just to get into their srat, and if you are just using them to get into their srat, their srat isn't the right one for you anyway.

That's fair, it was fall for me. I don't know much about 2nd year COBs in the spring, I was speaking more to being a COB in my 2nd year in general. Can't say I know any 2nd year spring COBs personally, but I honestly only really know two or three other 2nd year COBs in general. It's probably more rare in the spring, that's a good point.
