Second Round Advice for PNMs

by: Advice

Some advice for PNMs from a current brother as second round starts:

1. You will probably get dropped from a frat you like. This doesn't mean the brothers didn't vibe with you, or that you're not good for any fraternity. With almost 900 rushees, there are gonna be crazy amounts of drops, even if you think you click well with a few guys at a frat

2. With that in mind, make sure to visit places you wouldn't initially think about. Beyond any other surface level stuff, you're looking for PEOPLE you like. You will be spending the next 2-3 years with these guys, so joining a frat full of people you don't like and a few guys you know kinda well never makes sense

3. Just act like yourself. Talk about things you like, most guys genuinely want to know more about you because, again, they'll probably be spending the rest of college with you. We can 100% see if you are actually the person you say or present yourself as, so just be truthful

4. Enjoy the process. There's a reason people call rush the best two weeks of the year

Good advice. Number 3 bears repeating; be your best you, not the you that you think they are looking for. The guys rushing you will sniff that out real quick and it's a good route to a bad rush. And when it comes down to it and you have a choice to make, remember that your pledge class is the group that you will be closest to, and your relationship with those guys will mostly define your fraternity and friend experience for four years. You may mesh well with the older brothers at a house, but look around at the other guys rushing with you there, and consider how well you like them and could get along with them. Good luck.
