second year rush doesn’t guarantee you a bid
by: cap
i’m seeing a lot of cap on here and commented it somewhere else but people considering dropping so they can rush 2nd year and try to get the frat or srat that dropped them:
1) having friends in an org doesn’t guarantee you a bid. you can still get dropped
2) the people you’re friends with who join might not be your friend in a year. actually this is very likely. you’re probably only gonna stay close with a few people from first year, that’s normal
3) you might not actually still want that org by next year, and then you’ve missed out on an entire year of greek life
4) being a 2nd year pledge isn’t bad (lots of people do it) but you are missing out on being close with people your age in your PC and getting to know fourth years as a first year which is an underrated part of joining imo lol they will take you under their wing and when you’re a 2nd year you don’t get that experience as much
basically don’t get your heart set on one place and then think you can definitely get them next year bc you’ll know people. nothing is guaranteed and you should get to know your options and think carefully

ya and you can’t guarantee that. obviously it works out for some people 2nd year but if you drop to get a specific organization/tier you might just get disappointed twice and never get to be in greek life lol
