Srat/Frat Stigmas

by:

Do sororities/fraternities have something against sophomores? A lot of my friends rushing a srat/frat have been dropped.

i can’t speak for frats, but first year and upperclassmen are not competing for the same spots in a sorority. there are separate quotas in place so that this problem does not occur. sororities have to take a certain # of upperclassmen, so they were probably dropped for other reasons!

I’ve heard of a LOT of second years getting dropped so there’s a chance the quota they’re required to meet is lower than most years

the quotas are based on the # of them that are rushing at the time

Let's clear up something: Quota is a maximum limit, not a required minimum. Sororities are never, ever required to carry or bid anyone. It is actually the opposite. Each house is given the absolute maximum number of pnm's they can invite back each round, separated out by freshmen and upperclassmen, and these numbers differ from house to house. A house may choose to invite back less than their allowed max number to any round. And Quota is the maximum allowable number of bids that every sorority can offer, NOT a required minimum, with different Quotas for freshmen and upperclassmen but the exact same number for each house. While it is usually to any sorority's advantage to invite back their maximum each round and offer bids to Quota, no sorority is forced to invite back, or offer a bid to, anyone. That is a national NPC rule.

To further clarify, Quota is never a preset number, and the numbers that each house is limited to carry from round to round are based on percentages derived from recent past rush figures for each house, not preset numbers either. Quota does not drive the invitations from round to round because no one knows what it will be until after pref round and all PNM's have signed their cards. More PNM's rushing and staying through the process = more bids, both freshmen and upperclassmen, as far as the numbers go.
