Rerushing a frat that dropped you

by:

Is it awkward/not a good look to rush a place that dropped you the following year? I got invites back from some places but I'm kinda so-so on them and my top choices dropped me. My friends though got invites back to my top choices and if they end up pledging there I might not pledge and rush their frat next year. Would that be awkward or will I be fine as long as I have a good attitude about it (not bitter I got dropped but also not kissing too much ass)

if your friends end up getting a bid and you gel with them it could help you get a bid, however getting dropped previous years casts a lot of doubt and second years opinions aren’t always valued as much in rush since theyre learning. i would suggest sticking with your current options. accepting a bid doesn’t disqualify you from rushing the next year if you drop. pledging is all about becoming close with the house so you may surprise yourself. also not being in greek rank when all your friends are can be alienating since they’ll be spending a ton of time with their new pledge classes. stick it out you might end up happier

I agree with this mostly but some people just fall through the cracks and it doesn't mean anything. Some guys, especially with Zoom, just get screwed over and like OP said, if he has a good attitude about it it won't be a big deal. My fraternity saw guys that were dropped first year come back the following year and we really liked them, so we gave them bids. And if OP knows guys that are gonna pledge one he liked but got dropped from, there's a strong chance he'll get to know more upperclassmen through them.

I'm in a sorority so it may not be the same as yours but whatever. I was in a similar position my first year when I rushed as I was dropped by houses I really wanted but got a bid from one I was iffy on. I decided not to accept and then the next year I got a bid from the one I wanted. It may be a little different from guys though. I will say since you guys still have a week left of rush, stick it out and see how things go and if you still aren't sure a frat is right for you or not then you don't have to pledge, but if your friends pledge one of the ones you wanted, then ask them about how you can get a bid for the following year. Good luck and no matter what decision you make, it'll be the right one :)

don’t join a frat if your heart isn’t in it, but just because you have friends in greek life when you rush 2nd year doesn’t guarantee you a bid. i know a lottttt of people who never joined greek life at all bc they assumed they’d get a bid at the frat/srat of their choice and didn’t lmao. plus you don’t know if you’ll still be friends with those people by next spring, that’s a whole year away and a lot can happen in between

I would say re rushing the same frat as a second year isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if people remember you for something negative from the year before, that could still definitely hurt you. Not saying that is the case with you just what I know from prior voting experience

Also though Rush can be a really fun experience so still go to all the fraternities that invited you back, could be surprised how much you end up liking them
