COB and snap bids

by: Justme

What’s the difference? When do they happen and how long are they given out?

If I did a suicide bid and got dropped, then if I got a snap bid, when would I find out?

Next year. Since you suicided you aren’t eligible

You are eligible for a bid whether you "suicided" or not.

Call have been made but some weren't able to reach their targets. There is a lot of competition during snap bids as the same girl weighs different options she has. The matching system is no longer a factor. Girls have multiple bids.

Make sure you change your phone settings to accept anybody not just contacts!

What do these numbers mean? That these Sororities have already given that number of Snap Bids? That they were that far away from reaching Quota?

Does accepting a snap bid mean that you're a second choice sister forever? Do your pledge sisters ever find out? Maybe I should do informal in the fall

No, none of your pledge class will know and only the rush chairs and maybe president will know you received a snap bid. It's done very quickly and the new pledge goes to bid day with her class

Snaps happen because it's very seldom that chapters make quota within their first bid list. What happens is that as PNMs that are on their first bid list match to their other preference at their first choice selection(ie this chapter is their #2 choice), then that PNM is removed from the chapter's list and the next PNM moves onto the list. Once the chapter has matched quota, then they start looking at the 2nd choice of the remaining PNMs that attended the chapter's preference and are somewhere on their bid list.

Quota Additions are placed at the time of bid matching and only PNMs who list all options are eligible. Because they are matched at the same time as the rest of the pledge class no one knows that they are a "QA" and the chapter doesn't know either.

"estimating that number based on the chapter's past performance"

Like actual data about PNMs' rankings throughout formal in past years?

The more you learn about the algorithm, the more unfair it seems.

Pledge classes would be bigger if fewer girls dropped out during the process because PC size is determined by how many total PNM's remain on pref day

Which sororities are doing snap bids or COBs? I got to house tours with my favorites but they didn’t invite me back for prefs. Do I have any chance, no matter how unlikely?

Do you have to know someone to get in, or is just having had great conversations with the girls through 3 or 4 rounds enough to at least give you a glimmer of a chance?

According to ISC guidelines, signing your Bid Card is a contract. If you get a bid and you change your mind, and "don't accept the bid" you have to wait 365 calendar days to accept a bid from another sorority. You are not eligible for COB, Continuous Open Bidding, for an entire year, nor are you eligible for Informal Recruitment in the Fall.
