pre bid day advice

by:

what’s up first years i was gonna come here to bump a post i made before rush with some things i wish i knew when i was your age. but i see it has been deleted already lmao god forbid there’s anything on this site that isn’t a ranking but anyway i hope this helps at least one person:

—you’re gonna get dropped by somewhere you like. it doesn’t mean they hated you secretly or that you will never have friends in that sorority. it just happens and once you’re in a srat you’ll see what we mean by so much of it is random and who you got paired with and how they vote as a recruiter. be resilient and look at the houses you have left as places that saw you not just fitting in, but as a positive addition to their chapter. that’s a compliment \n\n\n\n\n—none of this actually matters. like deadass lmao. this is UVA, not bama or auburn. your sorority isn’t your only group of friends, like that’s considered a little sus here. everyone at UVA is in a million different clubs and double majors so you naturally meet people all over the place. yeah you can meet your main group of friends thru your srat but it’s not the end all be all, for most people here it’s just another extracurricular \n\n\n\n\n—even if you’re not thrilled about a house going into it, going in positively and remembering that they WANT you there makes a huge attitude difference. and if you had an ok convo before and they invited you back, then they recommended people for you to talk to that they think you’ll vibe with. the nice things about house tours and prefs is they know you better now so they will be able to match you better so be excited about that\n\n\n\n\nhouse tours and prefs are such a good chance to meet cool people. even if you don’t join a particular srat, if you vibed with certain people there they won’t forget u and will still be your friend. join a place that you’re gonna grow in and can see yourself adding to positively. go greek go hoos

But unfortunately there will still be plenty of PNMs that ignore this because they’re so concerned with what other people think and therefore they MUST join a top tier house, regardless of the fact that they know that it isn’t their best fit.

there are always those people but honestly rush is such a stressful process that gets so many girls down that if even one person is able to find some guidance it’s worth it IMO

People always say some houses wanted you but it rings so fake Bc some houses don’t have any options and you get offered by default Bc they need girls. So the whole you belong where you get a bid should be caveated that some houses can’t make cuts. It feels sugarcoated when we say oh they really thought you’d be perfect here.

OP is very right. I completely understand that it can feel devastating when you’re dropped by your favorite house, and you are totally allowed to be upset, but I also hope you understand that things really do work out the way they are supposed to. You will maintain your friendships with girls in other sororities and you will continue to make friendships outside of your sorority. So be upset, cry if you need to, but don’t let that initial disappointment override the positives.
