legacies

First year, definitely rushing. How do sororities view legacies coming through? Is there a push to recruit them or are they judged harder? Also, how do sororities view girls rushing them if the girl is a legacy at a different sorority?

Girls, just because you’re a legacy somewhere does NOT guarantee you a bid there. 1. There are way too many legacies going through recruitment for all of them to get a bid 2. Legacy status doesn’t mean much, some srats are no longer obligated to invite you back after first round. It’s so annoying to hear girls say they’re going to rush and join XYZ because they’re a legacy and when sororities hear about that it makes them want to cut you to get your ego in check.

In past years there was supposed to be mild technical advantages for legacies in most of the sororities. It was different for every srat but usually the legacy had to be called back to at least round 2 & for some sororities, if a legacy made it to pref they had to be put at the top of the bid list. This didn’t actually mean that much bc they would just cut any legacies that they didn’t want right after philanthropy so they didn’t have to deal with the pref requirement if they weren’t sure about the girl. But this summer most of the sorority’s national HQ’s got rid of all legacies advantages as part of diversity initiatives so it won’t help you at all anymore

If you’re an Aphi or theta being a legacy will get you nowhere because both of them have stated that they no longer consider legacy status during recruitment.

Only matters if you're a legacy if your mom was in a srat here at UVA, not anywhere else/ You'll get invited back at least to philanthropies.
