past sororitys at uva

by:

I know that Phi Mu used to be at UVa until the mid-2000s or so. Have there been any other sororitys that have closed down here as well?

How do we get the process started? Or does the Phi Mu national office have to initiate things with ISC? Anyone know?

I think it has to start with the national office. Maybe if we contact them?

Would have to vote on opening the campus for extension first.

The University decides when to open for new colonization / recolonization. I'm pretty involved and to tell you the truth I don't see that happening as long as the lower houses are disrespected so much here. Their first priority is to get all the chapters doing well then invite in another group. it's not going to happen with the stuff I read on here. No university wants a group of mean girls deciding who is welcome.

Sounds like the national representative from Tri Sig doesn't want any competition. Sorry but Tri Sig doesn't have the national presence a lot of girls want. To deny a sorority that was on grounds for years the opportunity to come back because of "mean girls"...really? If there is a strong enough interest I think we could make it happen...despite your efforts to sabotage our efforts. Who is being the mean girl?

So...when I was there, AGD, AXiD & Sigma Kappa all opened new chapters. ADPi recolonized, SDT had a chapter that closed my first year, but now they are back. So, how are Sigma Kappa and ADPi doing there? They are the only two who lasted of the ones that came on when I was there (86-90)

As a current student, I can tell you SK and ADPi are doing great! SK is rumored to have gotten a stellar pledge class this year, and ADPi girls are known to be sweet and very classy. Both sororities are mid-tier, and are very well-established on grounds.

SK is mid-tier, but lower mid-tier, if that makes sense? ADPi on the other hand is definitely a bottom-tier sorority.

Interesting stuff. So the "80's" was not a good time for sororities, while most of the "top" sororities came on just a few years earlier in the 70's. And, the earliest sororities XO, KD and Zeta had to overcome the stereotype of being "teacher's" sororities. I wonder what the enrollment of women students was back in the 80's? Maybe, it was just too much, too soon?

I think the current enrollment of women students is 53% of the student body, so there are now over 7,000 women as opposed to maybe 3,000 then. Just guessing. UVA definitely needs more sororities!
