post-rush has been hard

by:

i rushed as a second year and didn't get in anywhere despite all my friends in sororitys rn saying theyd help. i get that they prob didnt have a huge say, but every single person in my friend group joined one and now ive been feeling super left out bc every weekend theyve been going to mixers and doing sorority stuff. a lot of my guy friends stopped talking to me or putting me on the lists to their parties bc im not in a sorority and they think i must be "weird" if i didn't get into one. a lot of my relatives have been judging me bc i didnt join greek life like they did. ive always looked forward to joining a sorority and finding my sisterhood because my mom and grandma had such amazing experiences, one i will never have now. i haven't seen a lot of my friends because they've been busy with sorority stuff and its rlly been making me feel lonely. i really don't understand why i did not get in anywhere- im nice and i thought i had so many great conversations. now, for the past month, i've just been spending a lot of my time by myself and i rlly hate the rush process at uva /:

I rushed as a second year too! I had my heart set on one house but I got dropped before prefs. I wasn’t super happy with the houses I got for prefs but I kept an open mind and joined. Turns out it was the best decision of my life! I’ve made so many new friends already and I’m absolutely in love with my sorority. I had major misconceptions about the sorority I joined because of Greek rank and other people gossiping. I might not be in a top tier sorority but my life has been 10x more fun after joining. If you get the chance to informal or rush again KEEP AN OPEN MIND! I’m sure you would be much happier in one of the houses that you dropped rather than not being in any sorority. And yes, your friends did have way more pull they clearly didn’t push for you which sucks. I’d probably try to join new clubs for the time being to meet non Greek people and maybe try informal next falll. Yes! I do know some 3rd year girls who did informal :)

I’ve heard of 3rd year informal working in a few rare cases but they all had a lot of connections and were well-liked in the sorority. It might work for others, but I don’t think op would have a shot here if her friends couldn’t pull her for formal

Can I ask what your houses were for pref that you dropped? Also which houses were you looking to join?

You could but considering how this is a fake post, the answers would probably be fake as well.

Coming in here with a “friends” perspective. One of my friends was rushing and kept asking me to let her join my sorority. To be honest, she’s a great friend and awesome person but would absolutely not fit in with my sorority. All the girls she talked to for round robins agreed and low ranked her. Yes you might want your friends to help you but they’re not obligated to let you join if you wouldn’t fit in well with their sorority. Let the process do the work! I bet you’d be a great fit for the places you dropped

can't say i have much sympathy - you had options left before you dropped and you made the decision that you'd rather be in nothing. Even if you weren't nuts about them, you should've at least gone through bid day and a couple weeks to try them out. You could have always dropped before initiation

I know who this girl is and the sad thing is she actually vibed with the people she purely dropped because KD was a “low tier” . Wrong mindset

i agree, especially considering how unlikely informal is for third years, the whole “you have to wait till next formal to rush again if you take a bid but then drop” really doesn’t matter
