legacy importance

how important is being a legacy here? if it is only important for a few, which sororities is it important for?

It can definitely help a lot and get you to next rounds. For the top ones it helps already knowing girls in the house already. If you don't know anyone, you won't make it.

A lot of nationals are beginning to drop their requirements for courtesy invitations to legacies after first round because there are now so many legacies going through at every school. Yeah, legacies are valued in principle, but it is impractical to accomodate them like it once was. It will get you noticed, and if you get to pref you should be on the top of the list for a bid, but in the early rounds anything goes and legacies get released all the time.
