from another school wondering about legacies
by: good big sis
Hello, I'm in a sorority at another college (purposefully vague.)
My little sister is going to UVA next semester and will probably rush and I am too dumb to know if she will get to use my active status to her advantage...
I'm still in college myself so could she count as a legacy? Our mom was not in a sorority (the goofball did a suicide bid) so I am my sister's best shot. SOS :))))

depends on what sorority it is. every sorority has different policies on legacies, so it ultimately depends on what sorority you are in!!! But honestly, make sure she explores all of her options because each sorority is different everywhere. she should find her best match and trust the process, regardless of being a legacy

Every NPC sorority grants legacy status to those with an initiated member sister or mother, as long as they are in good standing. Yes, she would be a legacy through you as a collegiate member sister (as long as you are in good standing.) Depending on the national sorority legacy policy, she could be granted an automatic courtesy invite to philanthropy round, but that is all and could be released after that. That is all that legacy would do for her; she will have to make it on her own merits. Also, depending on national policy, if she makes it to the pref round she could be top of the bid list as a legacy. You should find out from your nationals what their policy is so you would know what to expect. Also, legacy status is no replacement for recs. She needs to get them.
