"The Old South Ball and/or Dixie Ball has evolved since 1920 as a traditional social function of the Active Chapters of the Kappa Alpha Order with the purpose to celebrate and to perpetuate the social attributes of courtesy, graciousness, and open hospitality, which are values of the Old South and were prominent in Virginia when our Order was founded in 1865. These chapter functions have never been prescribed or recommended by the Order. The Old South Ball and/or Dixie Ball must be conducted with restraint and dignity and without displays of trappings and symbols which might be misinterpreted and objectionable"

Most frats at uva are pretty different than whatever their national org is, more like social clubs than fraternities since they are smaller than the 40 person PCs you see at SEC schools. KA here, for instance, doesn’t do the old south ball, pika is not called “pike” etc

KA is mostly NOVA middle-class white (of course) kids who traded in their Bernie stickers for some MAGA read hats after “connecting” with southern culture through country music at the end of their junior year of high school despite never firing a gun or baiting a hook. He purchases some boots, watches Old Row videos on how to packing a lip, heads to fraternity rush, and shares completely fictional stories about spending summers growing up on the family’s nonexistent farm. The "truck" he talks so much about is actually his stepmom’s old Honda CRV.
