what makes a "top tier" sorority a top tier?

by:

1. Is it demand on the part of PNMs? Which I guess is another way of saying popularity.

2. Is it the profile of the girls in that sorority? Are they better, smarter, more likable, more involved, etc.?

3. Or is it something more superficial? Like looks, money, connections, etc.?

Based on what I've observed, it seems to be #3. Which is odd that they would then be so in demand. Because unless you have the right look/money/connections, you'd probably be pretty unhappy in that environment or never able to be yourself.

Ranking Tiers based on looks or money seems really shallow. But I might be reading it wrong.

If ISC would release their data, then we would know which sororitys are most in demand and therefore "top"

What would you gain from knowing that? All the girls have to go to every house to start. It’s a national rule. Not a UVA thing.Lobby the nationals if you want change. Sooo...it’s not as if they could say, well, it’s too hard to get in that sorority, I’m not going. And others would complain if the numbers were shared, oh that’s mean. Can’t win.

If rushing was an application based on grades and involvement, it might be fair or more fair. But ...what can you do? Life is for better or worse sometimes influenced by looks, wealth and who you know.

ISC can use the statistics for recruitment but doesn't own the information to share with others. It's the property of the National Pan-Hellenic Cartel

Historically, it's pretty much been #3, which then drives #1.

But wanting a sorority based on "tier" is just silly. We should go for the place where we fit the best. Where we can be ourself everyday. Where we truly like the women around us. And where we believe we will grow in good ways.

What do you think a ranking according to PNM's after round robins (when they see all the sororitys) would be?
