cob questions

Not trying to rain on hopefuls' parades about COB, but the absolute best chance to receive a bid and join a sorority is through rush. Houses might have a couple of COBs to offer or none at all. Not all houses will give out bids because they fear risking their reputations. It seems like more girls this year dropped out of rush to hope for a miraculous COB. For most that will not happen. I would look ahead to informal rush in the fall if no bids are forthcoming this spring. A number of national sororities also have a rule that once cut, you are cut forever from that house. So this underscores that your best bet will probably be with a sorority that some PNMs may have already decided was "beneath" them.

If you dropped with choices left, remember you did so before being able to talk to a hundred or more of the sisters. You didn’t get to meet everyone. Chances are good you’ll click with at least a group or two in any house. Go back to the ones you dropped and see if they have any COBs... and get to know ALL the sisters.

Unfortunately most PMNs look at this site and make judgements on a sorority and say oh it wasn’t a fit when in fact it was based on the rankings on this site. It’s sad, because instead of experiencing an absolutely wonderful experience of bid day and subsequent opportunities you allow this site to factor into your decision. For some informal works for most it doesn’t and yes rushing as a second year is harder. I feel sorry that you let some random site interfere with you meeting some incredible young women who like you have outstanding academic and personal credentials and qualities.

I didn't think any houses were 'beneath' me. I dropped out of rush because I didn't get my fave houses on pref day. I enjoyed the two houses I went to, but I just didn't see myself in those sororities. I'd like to believe that most people aren't that shallow.
