These are rush stats from two years ago. These numbers came directly from UVA: Recruitment began with 1,020 Potential New Member registrants. Prior to the start of the first round, 42 women left the process (either did not show up or withdrew before starting recruitment). The number of PNMs who thus began the process was 978. Ultimately, 356 women voluntarily withdrew, did not receive a bid, or were released at some point during the process. 622 women received bids, the vast majority of whom received their first choice.(???, not sure about that...) So.... at UVA, 36.4 percent were cut out of rush or left the process. Two years ago, the national average was 17% and the SEC schools were all under 10%.

I think that this year's numbers will be very similar...

The student activity fees support the FOA education modules and insurance

Basically ISC and FSL are making a profit on every unmatched PNM who paid fees and doesn''t receive a benefit or require services.

In that view, UVA sorority rush is more successful (profitable!) than Bama. Go hoos

why are pledge classes at UVA so small?

Pledge classes are based on quota, which is the number of individuals rushing divided by the number of sororities. As girls drop out of rush, the quota also drops.

The real problem is girls dropping out of the process themselves because they aren’t willing to give their remaining sororities a chance. You meet maybe 10 girls in each one during rush and they are almost never 100% representative of the whole chapter. Sororities have 120+ girls and if you can’t get along with anyone out of that many, then maybe you’re the problem. SEC schools are significantly lower because of how big Greek life is there and the idea that you HAVE to be in one to have a social life - which is not true at UVA at all so that’s not even a fair comparison. Not true for everyone, but people need to stop blaming UVA’s system on their inability to give chances to chapters that gave them one.
