transparency

The ISC should publish statistics about recruitment, just like admissions and honor committee and every other important office on grounds does on the issues they handle.

There is one aspect that hasn't been mentioned but ISC should absolutely be transparent yet they have not historically been. I believe that ISC needs to explain their Pref Match algorithm. I have heard about girls not getting their top choice because of the numbers, but what does that mean? What exactly are these 2 lists that sororities submit? What is this ranking of PNMs and how does it affect your chances based on your preferences? Why would a PNMs first choice preference not be weighted during the match process? Why do PNMs get their second choice, but their first choice gives out COBs? Makes no sense. ISC be TRANSPARENT about this mysterious algorithm!!

it really just takes a simple google search and the algorithm is called rfm. At the end, each sorority will have a first bid list the size of quota that would be their ideal pc and a second bid list with the rest of their pref people, although the point of inviting people to pref means they would be happy to have any of the pnms in their new pc.

From here, if a pnm is on her number 1’s first bid list, she gets a bid. If she isn’t on her number 1’s but is on her number 2, she goes to them. If a pnm only put one name down when she went to 2 and this happened, she would be dropped completely which is why they tell u not to suicide.

The next part only happens if a pnm puts both sororities down and isnt on either. Idk how uva does it because I’ve heard different schools do different things, but if a pnm doesn’t match on either first bid list, she’ll either get her number 1 or whichever one is smaller, again I don’t know. This is called a quota addition

Thank you for your response, I really do appreciate it, but you are making my point about transparency. A PNM shouldn’t have to google this information, it should be explained. A question for ISC, how many girls “suicided” and did not receive a bid? If there is still space in PNM’s #1 PC after sorority’s first list is complete, then PNM should be given a bid to her #1 choice not move to #2 until there is no space available in the PC. That means that girls lower down on the list can get into a house more desired and higher ranked by someone else but because of this algorithm they don’t get in.

Since ISC is part of UVA you could demand the data by using FOIA

How much does that cost?

Why do you need to know what house was the “most popular”? Being most popular means that it’s got the reputation on grounds and we all know who those chapters are. If you say, hey these chapters are the most popular formally from the UVA ISC, that is going to make it even more clearly known and girls will again be trying for those chapters. I do not see how that helps anything.
