transparency

by:

The ISC should publish statistics about recruitment, just like admissions and honor committee and every other important office on grounds does on the issues they handle.

Interesting. What stats do you need? In what way do you feel they are not being transparent?

What are the relevant items and metrics?

people registered for rush

people who did each stage of rush, showing breakdown at each stage

number of people who dropped at each stage

which sororitys were most in demand and which were least

number of people who suicided rather than gambled with matching

number of people who didn't accept ISC's "match"

number of dropped or unmatched who later were successful in joining through snap and COB and informal

So do you think they are trying to pressure girls into accepting houses they don’t really want by not being forthcoming with this information? That’s kinda been my sense.

If could be measures, how many are influenced by stupid rankings like on this site. I would be more interested to know if this site wasn’t here, how many girls would continue the rush process and be perfectly happy where they end up versus what is perceived to be the reality of each sorority based on this site.

Really? You want to embarrass sororitys by saying how man didn’t want them. What is wrong with you?

Everyone knows who the top and bottom sororitys are, I don’t think most girls take this site too seriously. I really don’t think much would change if this site went away. And maybe if ISC were more transparent you wouldn’t need this site at all. I think it provides a lot of insider info that is not widely known or talked about.

1)ISC would never publish which sororitys were in most demand and which were least
2)All you need to know is # of girls rushing/#of sororitys/average pledge class size , and you can do the math.
3) Everything else varies by year or is not relevant if you r truly hoping to find real friendships.

If ISC wants to hold their cards.close to their chest then sites like this will continue to provide pnms with the info they want/need. However false/true/harsh/kind it may be.

i don't think the isc should release info about individual sororities, but i think they should be more transparent with pnms about the numbers game. pi chis always tell you that every girl who wants to join a sorority can if she maximizes her options, but if you look at the numbers that's just not true. quota was 46, times 15 sororities thats a total of 690 girls joining sororities. COBs will add MAYBE 50 more, but that's pretty generous. well over 1000 girls registered for recruitment. even if some of those girls didn't end up going through the process, there's no way every girl who goes through rush has a spot. they count on girls dropping out/getting dropped.

That's not the way it works. For smart people, you are woefully ignorant of how the process works. 'Spots' are only determined at pref. The number of pnm's going to the pref round divided by the number of houses is quota. Some houses will take more due to quota additions, which ensure that every pnm who attends the pref round and ranks each house where she attends is guaranteed a bid. This is called "maximizing your options." This is the way it works on every college campus and on every college campus girls are disappointed when they don't get what they think they deserve. The vast majority of pnm's here who do not get a 'spot' is because they drop out. They only want a certain house or two and will not consider any other options, despite actually being wanted at other houses. The difference at UVA is in the entitled attitude. If 1000 pnm's registered and stayed the course, only a few would be completely dropped and new member classes would be at least 60 instead of 45.

Perhaps UVA is the one with the entitled attitude, that what they offer should be good enough for everyone. Wrong, you’re not offering what pnms need and are therefore missing out on some amazing women participating in greek life.

UVA doesn't give a rat's ass if you join a sorority or not. And what pnm's "need"??? LMAO

I think we all know that PNMs are entitled and they all think they need to be in the top chapters. If so many didn’t drop due to perceived “status”, we’d have a much healthier Greek system. We all know this. Girls drop after the first cut - you mean to tell me they didn’t get what they “needed” in the first round? They didn’t give the chapters a chance. We know this.

So they have these numbers but will not share them outside of ISC leadership and FSL?

Wow. Doubt it. Uva has an excellent retention rate for first years. Plus hundreds of groups to join beyond sororitys. Don’t be so dramatic.

Be real: No one is excluded from sorority membership. If you want to be in a sorority you can be — you just might have to give yourself a chance to know more members at a particular house and find your friends there. That is what the pledge period is about. Each has 150 or more members — you have to be able to find a solid group of friends in there.

Stop trying to “achieve” certain houses and blaming it on factors such as these and instead realize rush is hard for girls in houses because spots are limited and at the end of the day it’s a first impression game of who is going to fit into the network of sisters the best. If you’re getting dropped from top houses and complaining but had little to no connection to the house to begin with, the only thing making you want to be in the house is what you’ve read on this website, which is why you got dropped to begin with. If you stick with the process, you’ll get a house of nice girls but if you go in based off of this website, you might get lucky and you might not.
