coaches?

by: star

I think some girls do get coaches. There was an article in the New York Times in 2012 titled "Pledge Prep, Prepping Students for Sorority Rush". UVA was highlighted. I think the girls who do have coaches don't talk ever about it. I hate to say it but your friends are also your competition. There are only so many spots in each sorority and everyone wants to get in a good one. It's a weird, stressful time. Not so much if you're content if you're above playing the status game. Good luck!

If u don't have a coach u have no chance at top tier or upper mid. It's just a fact.

lol we’re gonna start this rumor again? This exact thing happened right before rush last year. PNMs, don’t start panicking that you don’t have a “coach”. It’s a ridiculous concept. You’re fine as you are.

I'm OOS and my mom wasn't in a sorority and I'm an only child so I don't have anyone to ask for help. Sorority rush feels like I will be visiting a foreign country solo. No one should blame me if I hired a "tour guide" to coach me, it's just leveling the playing field.

Girls shouldn't be allowed to get rush coaches. It completely takes away the virtue of "being yourself" and competing on that basis. If you get into a sorority for who you faked being rather than who you are, you shouldn't be in that sorority and will soon find out you are not that similar to your "sisters."

ISC should ban anyone who uses a coach.

I mean this with the best of intentions, but I think we set ourselves up for a difficult and unhappy rush and result if we view recruitment as a competition. I know it can feel like that, but it might help to try to focus on finding a place where you feel most at home and most welcome. I totally agree with you that the goal should be to find a sorority with likeminded or uplifting members. Best wishes!

Can you not dress yourself properly and make sociable conversation with others? Do you not know how to present yourself for making a favorable impression to show that you know how to be a polished, pleasant, and fun-loving young woman who would be an asset to a group of others who are like-minded? Please!

There is so much more to it than that and you know it. A lot of it is who you know, who you went to highs school with, do they like you, etc. Beauty counts too. Let’s be real.

Yes, but how is a coach going to impact who you know or where you went to high school or what you do on campus to meet people and get them to like you? Nothing. And you know it.

Rush is absolutely a competition at UVA and if you’re not prepared you’re destined for failure. Maximize your chances and get a coach but tbh you’re too late for spring 2021

Is it against the honor code to use a coach? Seems unfair against people who aren't from wealthy families and is basically kinda dishonest.

Most girls who succeed in rush have a coach unless they have prior connections. It's an unspoken rule of rush.

I personally know of a girl who went through rush last year with a coach and got dropped from every house except sig delt and gamma phi because her GPA was too low. Don’t expect much out of rush if you have below a 3.3

The message of this post is wrong. It tries to make the girls in those sororities feel as if they are less than. Again if anyone pays attention to crap on here you are crazy.

Is GPA really looked at much beyond the basic requirements?

I don't think it is technically cheating to use a coach... but I am proud that I did the work myself and have a complete plan with wardrobe and accessories for each round. RTR is highly recommended and affordable. Looking forward to rush!!!

Super, would you mind sharing approximately how much it cost for your rush outfits and accessories from RTR? It seems like a great idea! Hope you get into the house of your dreams :D
