This may be a really dumb and strange question, but in a fraternity are you expected to attend events like formals, road trips, etc.
An event like a formal or something would likely not only take up a whole weekend when I might have a lot of work unexpectedly to do and would likely cost a lot I assume for hotels, dinner, and stuff? (Unless everything is covered from dues). Pretty much I don’t really wanna have to commit myself to worrying about finding a date and making sure I get all my work done for the entire weekend earlier for an event like a formal every semester.

Well to start off, formals and other long events are usually the most fun things in a semester and what everyone looks forward to. It's a time to get closer as a brotherhood while also having fun outside of school grounds. That being said, they usually are not mandatory but everyone wants to go. They're also definitely subsidized through dues so they are not as expensive as they really should be. Joining a fraternity is a time commitment and something that can get costly, but is well worth it. As for doing homework in advance of a weekend, I gotta tell you that that is something you gotta start doing, regardless of if there's an event that weekend. It'll clear your schedule if you manage your time to get most of your work done earlier in the week. Also formals aren't always away, like beach formals or mountain weekends - sometimes they're one night things at the house. Hope that helped.

If you rush, never ask this to a brother. The best part of being in a fraternity is going to date functions and mixers, and if you are questioning something that is the core of the organization, probably not going to get much out of the experience.
Not to mention you first have to get through pledging to be a brother, which is a 24/7 time commitment.

For most respectable frats, its way more than a 3 credit class because you are always thinking about pledging. Its never off your mind. When you aren't hating pledging (use your imagination), you are drinking with brothers and you are the lowest of the low in the frat so you get the most crap from brothers but more in a funny way.
Take 12 credits of classes.

I’m not OP, but Is it really a “24/7” commitment for pledges I just heard it would be the equivalent of a 3 credit class or is it just more dependent on which chapter?
