transfer students and rushing
by: WonderingWondering if there is any point to rushing a sorority as a 3rd year transfer student. I know that rush is already extremely competitive as a first year, let along as a 3rd year transfer, but wanted to see. Is there any point in trying to rush?

Hi, I'm posting the same message I wrote to another woman who was planning to rush as a transfer:
I would encourage you to rush as a third year and here's my advice: I rushed as a transfer second year. The main think I wished I'd been told was to keep my mind open and to be kind and opposed to judgmental. I was lucky that I kept going back to one sorority that I thought of as a "safety." and it turned out I needed them when they were the only house who wanted to pref me. I am glad I gave them a shot and have enjoyed being in a sorority. However, if I hadn't let my snobby and preconceived opinions go, I would have stayed bitter and sad. I know it's hard to believe but so much of recruitment is about numbers, and the numbers just are not on a second or third-year's side. There are a few spots for those girls so be open-minded and keep your options open. If you go into rush excited to meet other women and become part of a sorority, you will find a fit and you will also avoid the needless drama I subjected myself to. I hope you will go through rush and make the experience a positive one by focusing on the groups that want you! Welcome to UVA!
