new sorortity rank - informal effects

by:

We say that having to do informal isn't a big deal because we want to be nice, but we all know it isn't a good sign for a chapter. It means the chapter didn't get enough new members during rush the past year and/or had a lot of drops. I think the informal list for this year reflects some big shifts in the tiers

DDD/KKG/APhi
AXO/PBP/DG
KAT/XO/DZ
ZTA/KD/SSS/ADPi
SK/GPB/SDT

As much as I want to jump on this snark train, you are wrong. Outside of formal recruitment National sets each sorority's membership numbers. We know that theta makes quota every year and has a high retention rate. Their national is making their class larger than the UVA average. If you want to focus on something quantitative to determine popularity- look at how many snap bids a sorority gives during rush.

But even without the effects of informal rush this ranking is still the most accurate haha

^ whether informal is a bad sign for theta or not, this is definitely the most accurate ranking I've seen on here. Plus I have heard of a decent number of drops from Theta...not saying thats the sole reason they're doing informal, but it's definitely hurting them

That is actually not how doing informal is determined whatsoever. Chapters who qualify for informal are those who are under campus total, which is the median amount of members across the ISC. So 7 chapters are always eligible, and theta is one of them because they have less than 128 members right now (which is campus total this semester). Chapters are allowed to take as many girls as it takes them to get to campus total during informal, so a lot of sororities who qualify are only a couple under total, which I believe is theta's case.

The thing is, not all houses are permitted by their internationals to do informal unless the school requires them to do it. Other houses are required to do informal if allowed by their school. That means that two similar houses, both at 125, one might do it and the other might not. It doesn't have to do with popularity unless you're having a massive drop out problem (and we all know what houses lose a lot of girls). It's usually just a matter of one girl who can't afford the dues, one senior that graduates early, a sophomore who had appendicitis and had to go home for the rest of the semester, and one with family problems who's dropping out of school. See? Then you're back up to total.

It is a known fact that Theta's member number was lower this fall because multiple members graduated a year early last spring with accelerated masters.

Informal is literally about numbers chances are theta/pi phi/dz had a ton of girls go abroad could you be more ignorant

By: Really

by: lmao

yes it's about numbers.... as in they don't have enough girls. that's literally what everyone's been saying. maybe they had some girls go abroad but i know my chapter plans ahead for that kinda stuff and makes sure we're well above total even if more go abroad than expected

^ well i can name several girls who suicided all of those sororities and didn't get it so its not about rush numbers...and how can a chapter plan far ahead when some new members of the pc even go abroad? people will say anything to make a chapter look bad how pathetic

just because your friends wanted to join those sororities and they didn't want her doesn't mean they aren't running into a numbers problem right now... My chapter also plans ahead for members that go abroad, even estimates how many new members will go abroad. It's not super common for second years to go abroad, even if a couple more than anticipated did it wouldn't make a sorority do informal. Stop making excuses, this is a numbers problem and abroad isn't to blame

Settle down, ladies. These sororities have to do informal. Members of those sororities want to convince everyone it's not a big deal, girls not in these sororities want everyone to see it as a big deal. Who knows.

You can still be an active member on the roster when you are abroad, so that doesn't affect doing informal.
