trans girl
by: pecI'm an incoming first year and am interested in joining a sorority. As a trans girl, how hard will it be for me to get a bid? Please be straightforward, I'd rather just know my chances than have false hope.

I know AXO nationals made an official announcement that they will accept transgender girls, but I'm not sure about other sororities. I'm a transfer student, and at my previous school there was an issue with a chapter wanting to give a bid to a transgender girl, but nationals saying it wasn't okay and threatening to pull their charter :( I would research the policies for each sorority before you rush.

what are those policies? and are those for the chapters at UVA specifically or nationally?

The policy is that they will accept trans girls into their sorority, and it's a national policy.

Other chapters may very be open to offering bids to trans girls, but there's no guarantee their nationals would be okay with it.

Shoutout to the sororities that have these modern policies!! I had never really thought about it so I looked up if my sorority has this kinda policy and we don't. Kinda disappointed. I'll be honest tho, rush still won't be easy even tho some sororities nationals are totally cool with it. Worth a try tho!!

First, having your nickname as "LOL" is pretty rude...This isn't a joke. Second, you say only the bottom tier might accept a trans girl like it's a bad thing. If you ask me, that makes the bottom tier look pretty good. Third, if joining a sorority as a trans girl is as hard as you say I'm not sure I want to rush anymore (I'm not the OP btw)

I think there are a handful of sororities that would be really open to having a trans girl if you're a good fit personality wise! If I were you I would focus on Pi Phi, KD, AXO, and Gamma Phi because to me those seem like the sororities that would be the most open to accepting a trans girl. Not to say other sororities wouldn't give you a fair shot, but those are just the more socially liberal sororitys that come to mind. I really hope you end up rushing! Good for you :)

DG, tri sig, and kappa are the only other sororities which have official policies accepting trans girls.
