Yeah seriously...we have 16 great sororities already. If rushing your first time didn't work out then rush again instead of blaming the ISC and saying you need more/better options

Says a bunch of rejects from rush..if rush didn't work out for you but you're still desperate to be in a sorority then just rush again! Plenty of girls do it. Convincing yourselves that the ISC will get rid of a chapter that just got here just so that you can start your own new sorority won't help.

Alpha Sigma Alpha is really strong at JMU and other schools in the state.

Never had a chapter at UVA. Maybe that's a good thing.

It's going to have to be a two step process. Close SSS for good. Let SDT improve; this could take two years. Then allow a new sorority to begin to recruit after formal in Spring 2019.

Phi Mu has a stronger position. More alumni, still has its old house, very strong in the south.

I think they sold the house. Maybe they could buy SSS if they would please just fold and go away.

Is there anything we can do to encourage the process? Should we petition ISC?

Oh good, a group for all the girls that got rejected from everywhere else. Y'all probably dropped from rush because you though you were too good for the bottom tier/bottom of the middle. Any new sorority/sorority that left and returns starts out as bottom - look at tri sig now and aphi like 10 years ago, it takes time to move up tiers

SSS is gonna spew hate all over this.

Tri Sig will always be bottom, they can recolonize 50 times and they will still be bottom. They are not a strong enough national to move up. APhi has an awesome national presence. Do the research. To wait to bring a new sorority to grounds until Tri Sig "moves up" is ridiculous. A sorority with a strong national reputation would pass Tri Sig their first year. ISC needs to get their act together.

It's clear that the ISC leadership and the sisters in "top" and "mid" tier sororitys like having SSS around because it makes them feel superior to someone.

Actually we'd like tri sig to leave grounds so we could get some decent sororitys like phi mu.

If you're in a "mid-tier" sorority why do you care. Smells like a bottom tier troll if you ask me. SDT is still fairly new and finally getting a house so that should help them but SSS needs to leave. After a major renovation on their house they still did terrible at formal, the writing is on the wall. Who wants to join a sinking ship with a lame national?

Maybe the way SSS nationals shut down the chapter last time has poisoned their future here forever.

Honestly, has any other UVa sorority shut down, kicked out all the members, and then come back?

Pretty sure Alpha Phi HQ shut down the UVa chapter -- rumor was they didn't think the women were pretty enough to attract big numbers of new members -- and then re-opened it. Don' think there was much of a break in time. Maybe a fall semester.

APhi was a failing chapter that was "revitalized" by their national in 2000. Basically recolonized without pulling the charter. They did the same with their chapters at Cornell, Duke, and Mizzou; all are now considered top/upper-mid houses.

"failing" how?

What did nationals change in order to make UVa APhi so suddenly successful?

Seems like SSS is trying to make the same pivot by shutting down and reopening. What's the secret sauce that SSS doesn't have?

time. it takes time to recolonize and move up tiers at all. who knows if tri sig will do it, but it's possible with time
