Seems like y'all dropouts should form your own new mid-tier sorority.

hey girl!!! i understand totally how you feel. i dropped after the first round of rush and i was so sad for like a month like crying myself to sleep and crying my mom just to sob sad and bid day was the worst watching my best friends get bids and having fun with all their sisters it just takes time. people shouldn't be trivializing your pain because it really does hurt but i seriously for real promise that it gets better!! throw yourself into your classes, try things you wouldn't have thought to, explore charlottesville, treat yo self, and take care of yourself!!! try informal in the fall or formal again next year if you want to, but i pinky promise it does get easier and you're gonna find yourself so much in the next months!!!! sororities can be fun, but they aren't everything (even if all the comfort colors tees on ground are telling you differently). listen, you can make it through the semester, you can rock your classes, and you can have a hell of a time here at uva even if it doesn't currently involve a sorority. much love, you're gonna make it!

I called HQ and they said they didn't think there was enough interest at UVA to support another sorority.

ISC has to invite them back. Talk to ISC.

ISC won't let any new sororitys come until SSS is mid tier.

this is true. i actually asked and SSS and SDT are struggling too much for UVA to take on a new sorority in the ISC right now.

SSS will never be mid tier, they've been bottom for 30 years.

i think bringing back phi mu could be a good option. it's a sorority that has a good to decent reputation nationally, and is at a lot of southern schools. a lot of people don't want to join SSS or SDT because they don't have a good reputation nationally, and a lot of what a sorority is is connections after college. i think more girls would consider these "lower tier" sororitys if they had good national reputations like phi mu.

It starts with the school. When the ISC decides they want another sorority they invite several to make presentations. Then invite the one they want to start a chapter. Seems they are not interested in expanding anymore until the current batch are doing well. So I don't see any new ones in the forseeable future.

This isn't rocket science. Interested women coordinate, reach out to some nationals that want to associate with, and see what happens. This is how it works everywhere. Show some initiative.

But the disappointed PNMs don't want to put in the work to build up and existing "low" tier or to create and found a new sorority.

If all of these disappointed PNMs are as good as they say they are, they could all accept bids at a "low" tier and make it better -- right?

There are reasons they are bottom.

Yes, for the number of girls who go through rush/don't get a bid there should be more houses. The problem also is, however, MANY girls drop out when they only have the bottom houses left. When a new house comes, they are undeniably less desirable than established houses with good reputations, nice houses, Etc. that leads to a bad first pledge class which leads to more bad pledge classes. I don't really know the solution it's kind of a vicious cycle but if we got more sororities, it's pointless unless they're able to establish themselves as a higher than bottom house some how. I know things can get better with time but I don't see the bottom houses moving up in the near future. I'd be curious how APhi did it...went from bottom apparently to a very well ranked house very quickly.

APhi did well because they have a strong national reputation. Girls don't want to join SDT or SSS because they are not strong nationally (as well as locally). ISC needs to get a couple more sororitys on grounds that are strong NATIONALLY. It's not rocket science.

The "lowest" sororitys are useful for others. Women in other sororitys can use their existence to justify their own innate superiority. PNMs who drop rather than join the "lowest" can also use them to say, "I'm too good to accept a bid from them."
