is rush coaches a joke

by: uhhh

To be honest I'm incredibly confused as to all the people posting about rush coaches? Is that even a thing? That seems ridiculous if you are supposed to be yourself during rush why are you trying to get a rush coach, to what extent do they help you "be yourself" that you could not already do??? I hope whoever is posting about it is from the South or something because I am pretty sure that is not a northern thing to do. Correct me if I'm wrong please

@OP "I hope whoever is posting about it is from the South or something because I am pretty sure that is not a northern thing to do."

What does that even mean?

Google "new york times sorority rush" to read more about coaches. They are real but girls don't talk about them. Most girls consult coaches over christmas break.

These are not necessary. I am in a solid mid tier sorority and don't know a single person who had a rush coach. These are more of a thing at southern schools where rush is more cutthroat and superficial. Being yourself is the most important

No disrespect to you, but if you want to get into a mid-tier sorority, you're right, there's no need to hire a rush coach. The girls who hire them want top-tier

No one talks about coaches. No one asks about coaches. A lot of girls have friends in sororitys, moms who were in sororitys or know SOMEONE who gives them the inside scoop. It's not a formal arrangement but it's a coach. Girls who do not have access to someone like that would do well to FIND someone like that. DO NOT ask the girls you are going through recruitment with for advice. They are your competition in a weird sort of way.

THANK YOU, someone who finally speaks the truth. if you have a mom, a family friend, an older sister, an aunt, WHOEVER who can help guide you through recruitment step-by-step, you DO NOT need to pay someone to do that. however, if you really don't have ANYONE (which, chances are you do have someone who'd be willing to help if you just ask,) you can hire a recruitment coach. pat grant was the one mentioned in the NYT article about rush coaches and she is very experienced. i have spoken to her though and she does seem to know more about the alabama process than the UVA process, but still a great resource. anyway, you can hire someone like her, but i personally feel like that's really a last resort, if you have absolutely no other connections to sorority women.

Yep I promise you rush coaches are hired by PNMs at UVA and sometimes they make a huge difference.
