what do sororities think of 2nd years rushing?
by: Potential RusherDo you have a better or worse chance? I dropped out of rush last year but am thinking of giving it another go, but I don't want to go through it if sororities don't want 2nd years anyway.

this is a very outdated view, but my mom tried to rush second semester when she was here and it didn't work out. that being said, she didn't have ANY connections. if you know girls in one sorority really well, you probably have a decent shot at it. technically we do take second years, just a very small amount. do a lil schmoozin and don't set the bar too high and hopefully it'll work out

I rushed as a second year AND I HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE. They've changes rush so that each chapter has to to take a certain number of second years, so you aren't competing with first years for spots so that means you get asked back to top/middle tier sororities. For every round I got asked back to max number of houses AND i got my first choice on bid day. I was asked back by ZTA, PiPhi, DZ, XO, SK, AXO all great and super well known sororities and I was a second year. I also didnt have THAT many connections, the sorority im in i didn't know anyone in the chapters, so it wasnt like i was at an advantage. so be yourself, be open minded and have fun because thats what makes a successful rush experience!

Sororities need to pay the bills. They woukd prefer a first year over a second year (3 years of dues vs. 2 years). They will take the minimum required but woukd still prefer a first year. It works best if you have friends in the sororitys you're interested in. Not impossible otherwise but you need to stand out.
