oos student rushing
by: WahooI am applying to a UVA ED and it is by far my first choice. I am very interested in the Greek scene but I am concerned as I am an OOS student with no contacts at UVA. In our SEC town pledge classes are filled over the summer based on high school connections. Is this true for UVA too?

No you definitely have an equal shot of getting in to a sorority! Since UVA has formal recruitment in the spring, you have plenty of time to meet girls in clubs and social outings. I think it's still competitive but not as crazy as SEC schools. It doesn't hurt to have connections either.

You may not get into one of the top sororities without connections but you will certainly get into A sorority. Just use your first semester to meet people and attend events. One of the benefits of having spring rush, especially benefits OOS students who may not know anyone. Good luck!

It definitely isn't as competitive at UVA as SEC schools, but going through rush as an OOS student is a little different (from experience). Connections are a big part of rush and it's probably less likely that you can use a connection from high school to help you get into a sorority....unless you went to a northern private school, in which case Theta is for you
