derby days

by:

derby days is for a great cause, but it makes sororities so competitive and not every chapter did it. sororities here are already so competitive against each other and derby days made it way worse. people need to put stereotypes to the side and just be supportive of each other...

How did it make it way worse? The point of derby days was competition, it’s the same at every sigma chi across the nation. If a group or sorority didn’t compete they can’t complain about it?

many schools have this problem, not just us. the point is it turns into an unfriendly competition. it should be more "yay we helped sigma chi raise money" and less "yay we won and we are better than other chapter".

I think it wasn't too bad, until it came to the likes, one sorority literally jumped 600 likes in five minutes to jump in front of another sorority last second as if they didn't buy them, like its for charity, if you're going to spend money donate it to the cause not for the image

There’s private Facebook groups you can post asking for likes from other chapters for this reason alone. Also a lot of sigma chi chapters had connections to a lot of the girls in that cjapter

The thing that I think is sketchy about it is that Sigma Chi has the sororities like pictures to win in the first place- it’s literally just a way for their frat to increase their social media and has no relevance to the cause at all- the sororities liking their posts to win isn’t the problem, they just want to win money for their philanthropies. The problem to me is the fact that a fraternity is using the sororities’ desire to promote their causes to get more likes on their fraternity page. They also only market the event towards sororities whereas most philanthropy events are for everyone (including frats and non Greeks)- so the whole thing just feels like a way for a frat to market their relationship towards women. But of course, if a sorority chooses not to participate in the competition they’ll be called “uninvolved and rude” so most of them just deal with it.

If you are claiming that the sororities are only trying to like the posts for their image then you should be even more critical of the fraternity that makes liking their pictures a competition.
