hazing... for real

Does hazing happen in sororities?? I mean, seriously. I want to know what I’m in for regardless of what it may be.

Some of them definitely do. They’ll try to say that they don’t anymore but they most certainly do. Only a couple of them do on campus still since Umass is getting very strict. That being said every chapter has rituals, but only a couple still specifically haze.

KKG and SDT with the main difference being that kkg is more ritual based with structured time while sdt is stressful and strict. Source: I have friends in both of these chapters.

Surprised these orgs have gotten away with it for so long and continue to do it. My chapter doesn’t haze but freshman year my roomie was pledging sdt and she’d come home visibly upset often. Never got the exact details

Axo also hazes but they do it slowly and it happens after you’re initiated so you can’t leave and join a different sorority

I don't think they be too extreme, considering they literally got kicked off of campus a few years ago for locking girls in cages. They even lost their house because of it, if you look at the side of PiKapp you can still see the marks where AXO was lmao

Listen, this is the HONEST truth.

In years past, the sororities that ACTUALLY hazed were KKG, SDT, AEPhi, and IGU. While the others didn’t necessarily haze, there were still strict rules and a time commitment for new members.

Within the past 2-3 years, UMass and national orgs have really been cracking down. Whether people know it or not, those sororities that were “hazing” all got caught in some way or another. Now, the hazing is down to nothing.

So PNM, in short, PLEASE do not be worried about hazing. Go through recruitment with an open mind and choose a chapter you click with.

Don’t listen to boys trying to make the sororities look bad or jealous girls holding on to things of the past.
