will umass shut down all greek life?

by: sororityty

Last semester, we began to see how serious Umass is about cutting down on greek life. It started with theta and phi sig, spiraled into Pike, and now obviously Kappa Sig is no longer a thing. What can we expect from this semester? And the next semester? My prediction is we will slowly see repeats of these events and more fraternities will be shut down or suspended. Thoughts?

Hmm let’s apply some logic here, UMass All Fraternity average is slightly lower than the average of the student body, they cause a lot of trouble to the town and catch the school’s attention I.e. last weekend . Last semester, over two fraternities were suspended (interim or not), and there were incidents that led to at least one death, and the close-death of another.

Meanwhile, nationwide fraternity systems, whose value to their host universities are significantly higher than UMass’ (money raised for philanthropy, alumni donations to the alma mater, GPA average higher than all men’s, and Greek relations with admins), have been either indefinitely banned or completely abolished. We’re talking big schools with over 20% Greek life. Now UMass is already liberal enough, Amherst is already anti Party enough, and this day in age is already advanced enough, to drop its lesser significant Greek system any day now. Keep doing you chapters who make the rest of us Greeks look bad. The Greek director is a huge culprit in this so hopefully the admins figure this out in time unless IFC gets its authority together.

But that’s just my opinion. ΔΓΗΞ
