rankings- fall
by: Greek
In light of the unfortunate events recently in Greek life, I feel like fraternities should put their egos aside and get along with each other, at least for the time being. But since people keep asking on here for it after the suspensions I’ll try my best to give you something accurate of it.
Top:
1. Pike- These guys have been up here for years and haven't fallen just yet. Hated by every other fraternities and GDIs but loved by most sororities, especially Kappa. They have the most exclusive parties, which are impossible for guys to get in. There are a lot of shady rumors involving them, some are true, and some are false. Certainly the ‘fratiest’ fraternity on campus, consisting of a lot of New Yorkers, and solid athletes. Generally speaking, their older brothers are the backbone of the fraternity, and they need to do a much better job with recruitment. No matter what people say though, these guys are top tier without an argument.
2. Kappa Sig- You could not have guessed a few years ago that these guys would be doing this well. Their last couple pledge classes were real solid and their current one seems to be even better. On the other hand, their older brothers are not what you would call the best. They did not have strong relationships with sororities before, but that seems to have changed. Guys here are known to be nice, boyfriend type of material. They have probably the best Greek house and started throwing big parties which appeared to help. The negative part about their house is that Southwest is on the opposite side of campus and it is expensive to maintain. Although these guys have risen fast and in numbers recently, you can’t talk about them too much further without seeing consistency throughout the next few semesters.
Upper Middle:
3. TKE- Consistently one of the largest fraternity on campus in recent memory even without an actual house. Being social-able guys and involving themselves all over the place has definitely been a big reason to why they recruit well year-in and year-out. There’s several sororities that enjoy having mixers with them, meanwhile their actual parties seem to be lacking. Partly because their satellite houses haven’t been the best environment for it. Athletics seem to be something they are very high on, as they perform well every year in that department in Greek week. Overall, it is what you would expect in an upper middle tier fraternity. They do the best with what they got, but need to find ways to rise up and be even better.
4. Alpha Sig- This semester, they might be the most popular destination for freshman looking to party. With the recent happenings, party-goers are heading to Phillips Street a lot more now. They are usually nice at the door in letting both guys and girls in. Although at a good location, their house is small which makes it really tight to be in. Their dance floor is in their attic which gets really steamy really quickly. These guys surprisingly have a solid amount of brothers size-wise, and most are good guys that you wouldn’t expect to be in a fraternity. A good number of them have girlfriends. Surely they got a lot better as of recent, plus they are building a good relationship with SK. They need to continue building these relationships because mixers with other sororities have not gone very well.

5. Sigma Chi- Sig Chi is definitely a wild-card to be in the top tier in the coming years. They are relatively new, and I’m not even sure if they have their charter yet. But as a newer fraternity, they have done everything they could do to put themselves in a good position for the future. They appear to be able to recruit more guys than some of the chapters below that have been around for much longer. A decent number of the brothers are great guys that you would find in a top tier fraternity, while a number of them are a little off (which is to be expected in a new chapter). You could tell they are trying to make a presence this semester by throwing parties more often. They do not usually turn out the best though, and gets shut down by police. Some would put Sig Chi a bit lower which is reasonable, but sororities appear to like them. Guys in the chapter genuinely like each other, which puts them on the right path forward.
Middle:
6. ATG- Known strictly as an agricultural fraternity, these guys have become more than that as of very recently. With a house right by Sunset (near Southwest), they had several parties this year with good turnout. You could tell these guys are trying a lot harder now, as they recently put in work to host philanthropy events. Definitely not your typical ‘frat’ guys and most of them are friendly. They’ve had minimum to little presence is the past, so we would have to see if they continue this upward trend or not.
7- Pi Kappa Phi- Pi Kapp has the highest GPA of all fraternities on campus the last time I checked. Nice guys but the majority of them are definitely on the weirder side. They got a really nice house close to campus (previously owned by AXO) but do not throw enough parties in it. The guys in Pi Kapp truly care about their fraternity and puts good effort into it. Sorority relations are weak, but improving. You could put them in a tier below, but they have been consistent in numbers within recent memory.

Bottom:
8. ZBT- A diminishing fraternity that tries to make a presence. These guys would need to make a greater effort if they want to take a step up. They keep acquiring/losing different houses each and every semester so no one really keeps up with where they are located. Sororities rarely mix with them, but they do throw some parties.
9. Sig Ep- Still going hard with the little amount of brothers they have left. Not too long ago, they used to be one of the top on campus. Will probably be gone within a few years though.
10. Delta Chi- A small fraternity that has been here for a while. No real sign of growth or improvement, and their party houses seem to always be sketchy. People still go though, and they do a good job of letting everyone in. Sorority relations is at the very minimum for an active fraternity at UMass. Might be gone very soon if nothing changes.
11. AXP- Made a great effort to start and maintain a new chapter at UMass. Too many disagreements and lack of effort afterwards which lead to failure. Will not exist in a semester if I were to guess.
12. FIJI/ADP/Sammy- Basically non-existent.
