hazing?
by: Hashtag NervousI think I'm looking to rush SDT in the fall but I'm super nervous about the whole hazing process. It's something that no one really talks about in specifics they always just say there's a lot of it in SDT. All the sisters are like "don't worry about it trust the process you'll get through it!" but i's hard not to worry about it lol Any advice? Also thoughts on SDT in general? Is it hard to get a bid?

I don't think that it is necessarily a hard bid to get, I just think that some people fit better with some sororities than others. If they are the type of girl you can see yourself being friends with, then make sure to let the girls know during the process. Rush can be overwhelming with so many girls passing through that if you are too nervous or shy you can get overlooked. If you are a good fit with the sorority you will probably get a bid. As for hazing, Officially sororities at Umass do not haze since it is against school policy. Pretty much all of the rumors you hear about hazing are not true. That being said, being new member of any sorority can be very stressful because it is a large time commitment. If you really like the sisters that commitment will be worth it.

It is not hard to get a bid from anywhere if you are just yourself! As for hazing, no sororities at UMass haze. People can make rumors all they want to make other chapters look bad, but do not believe everything you hear. If you love a certain chapter during recruitment, do not let what other people say stop you from choosing that chapter. Use your own judgements and go where you feel is right and where you belong! I hope this helps, best of luck this fall!

You will hear a lot of things, ranging from no hazing at all anywhere on campus to straight up medieval torture techniques. The best advice anyone can give you is to take a leap of faith and try it out for yourself. Rush is as much for you as it is for them, if you don't like it you don't have to do it.

Had 4 friends who went SDT this past fall and the older sisters would scream at pledges a lot at mixers and the week before initiation. Had to wear embarrassing Halloween pledge costumes as well. They're given nicknames during pledging based on their looks and some of the names are pretty cruel

hazing is illegal in mass, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen on campus. SDT does haze, i've been told by multiple sisters
