pledge period
by: pnmHow difficult are all of the pledge periods of the different sororities? I'm interested in quite a few sororities but the potential hazing is definitely a factor so I would like to know a little about before recruitment.

As far as hazing goes, Sdt aephi and igu haze the hardest. Aephi was being watched so they've gotten a bit better but it's still thought. Kappa also hazes but it's nothing bad, mostly stupid/embarrassing stuff nothing traumatizing. Kappa is a huge time commitment though so occasionally it causes grades to slip. Chi o doesn't haze but they have a ton of rules during the new member period and it's a lot of time. SK doesn't haze at all but they do have some rules for new members, mostly about being approrpriate at parties. Axo is completely haze-free. Some people argue that SK and axo pledges aren't as close since they do not haze.

My freshmen year roommate pledged a sorority (for her sake becusse I promised, I won't say the name on here) and ended up dropping halfway through. They were my first choice at first too because it seemed like she was having so much fun. But after seeing what she dealt with I'm NEVER going Greek. They're all the same - it's not that they made her do anything crazy. The human cages rumor is not an actual thing guys lets not get crazy. It's the fact that they break the pledges down and make them feel like they're worthless. It's all a mind game. And after she dropped she found out a lot of the stuff she did was pointless anyway because they basically let you in no matter what. Sororities make you take tests on the history and make you feel like an idoit if you forget a question but turns out those tests don't matter anyway. If you fail every single one you could have still gotten in. They threaten to not let you in to scare you. And they make you sleep at the house some nights. honestly I know people join sororities to fit in and find a sense of belonging but personally I don't like the idea of becoming part of something that operates so much on mind games.

this is a good post. the argument for SK/AXO pledges not being as close is barely an argument, more like a fact. it's a trade off. no hazing, much less of a time commitment...much less of a tight-knit pledge class. Sdt, aephi and igu are known for hard pledge periods, but also known for strong sisterhoods. it's not a coincidence.
