by:

Why does everyone keep saying SDT has a hard new member process? I'm very interested in them so I was know what it's like. I also heard that KKG and AEPhi's are hard as well. I wanna be prepared help me out

SDT it easily the worse, prepare to be participating in "bonding" every single day, having to be sober for a long period of time, not being able to look good at mixers. They have a close sisterhood but pledging is a huge time commitment and ducks with u mentally. KKG is mostly mental hazing & getting yelled at. AEPhi has gotten away from that reputation a little bit & their pledges are smart enough to not talk about it.

He's what you hear is true, despite what sdts will comment on here telling you it's not true so that it won't stop you from joining. They had to do spring rush (means you're doing awful as far as membership at umass bc only the worst sororities ever have to do it) because so many girls dropped bc of hazing. Don't go into rush wanting a sorority, it's so dumb bc you don't know anything about them really. Go in with an open mind

Doing spring rush doesn't necessarily mean you're "awful at membership" lol literally up until about a year ago most chapters were participating in both until the caps started being reached quicker due to increased participation in recruitment by PNMs

Not true, if even AXO didn't have to do spring rush & they did, there's clearly something not going right. It's no secret that SDT had a huge amount of girls drop

lol pledge dropping is not the only reason why a sorority does spring recruitment.

For example, IGU does spring recruitment every year and rarely have pledges drop. Yeah there's always that one or two who have ridiculous majors and are heavily involved in 800 things and don't have time for greek life or who went through recruitment without their parents knowing and they were told to drop, etc. But every chapter has those and it's certainly not enough to warrant a spring class. The reason why they have to do spring recruitment is because PNMs love to read all the shallow BS on this site and don't accept their bids in the first place. Something tells me that SDT isn't immune from this, considering this stupid discussion even exists.

I'm not in a sorority but I know many people who are and I know a lot of girls who rushed SDT Fall 2015. If I'm being honest I know at least two girls who rushed that became really depressed during the new member period but because of all it entailed. I have nothing against SDT and there are a lot of great girls in the sorority but I think they definitely need to ease up on the new member period.

There is absolutely no way to know the truth about the new member period of any sorority unless you are in it, so all the above posts are irrelevant. Other sororities spread rumors to incoming freshmen that SDT's hazing is by far the worst, when in reality knowing girls in almost every chapter I can say they have a very similar process to several other chapters. Girls drop for many reasons, "hazing" being only one of the many.

However I would agree with the above comment that you shouldn't go into rush with specific views on each sorority, especially if you've gained those opinions from GreekRank. So much of what you read on this website is pure BS thrown around by girls from different chapters trying to make other chapters look bad. Do your research on the sorority's social media pages and then go through rush with an open mind. You will find the chapter that is right for you and no matter which one that is, the new member period will be worth it.

Not true, all the info above is 100% factual. Just because you're not in a sorority, it doesn't mean you don't have close friends who are and they will tell you, especially when it's bad. Yes, they aren't supposed to, but one of my best friends is in SDT & she vented all the time about it. She obviously didn't tell me all specifics, but I knew enough to know it was terrible. However, their sisterhood is very close so maybe there's something to it.

You clearly care if you're on here talking about things she told you almost a year ago, especially if you're not even in a sorority. Pretty pathetic behavior

I'm gonna be real with you. I'm not in SDT, but friends with many girls who are. If you ask anyone in the Greek community, they will tell you SDT hazes the hardest/IGU hazes the hardest, then aephi/kappa. They're the only ones who haze. Ask literally any frat guy or sorority girl, if they're being honest, they will tell you that. People will say what they want on this post, but that's the truth.

Sdt and aephi have equal/very similar hazing but sdt's is more notorious this year because they had a bunch of girls drop. Aephi used to be known for hazing badly so they're trying very hard to keep it quiet but it still happens. Kappa hazes badly too but differently.

This being said, I would argue from what I've heard that IGU actually has the worst hazing. they are a local sorority so they do not have to abide by national regulations, meaning their new member period is much longer than any other's and also can be a lot harsher without fear of punishment from nationals. their hazing is just not often talked about because SDT is a lot more popular on campus so more people know girls in it/care what they do. same goes for Kappa and phi.

Chi O has a lot of rules and standards are technically hazing but not at all what you think of when you hear the word. SK and AXO don't haze, but their new member classes are not nearly as close as the others from what I've seen.

by: Yep

I agree with all of this, except I think SDT hazes just as hard as IGU. So many people will comment saying this isn't true, but hazing is in SDT secret/unofficial national policy. For example, almost every chapter has to get all black everything for one of the first hazing things they do. Having hazing be part of ur national's is similar to IGU having no national's

Lmao wtf there is no hazing as part of SDT nationals or any sorority nationals come on

whoever wrote that about IGU obviously doesn't know anyone in IGU... they're the only sorority that can actually get in HUGE trouble and be kicked off campus for hazing, because they're local, so therefore they don't do it. It's "not as talked about" because it doesn't happen lol.

by: really?

last time i checked hazing is still illegal in Massachusetts, and I'm pretty sure SDT/IGU still has to abide by the laws of Massachusetts and can get in lots of trouble - like IGU could cease to exist. which is probs a great motivator not to haze.
Also, last recruitment all chapters had to give out 45 bids to PNMs, and something tells me that no house in Amherst has a closet large enough to hold a pledge class that big, so just take a moment to think of the feasibility of that rumor.

Lets be real,
If SDT has horrible hazing their chapter wouldn't have as many members as it does now, how does their chapter keep getting bigger if they have horrible hazing? It makes zero sense

by: Lol

Ur an idiot, you must either be in SDT so ur denying it or you're not in greeklife. Ask any sorority girl or frat guy, if they're telling the truth, they'll tell you SDT hazes the hardest. Every chapter at umass keeps getting bigger, but they had so many drop from hazing in the fall they had to do spring rush, which means their chapter size was below even AXO. Like don't kid yourself. People stay for the sisterhood.

I have a friend in IGU who pledged this semester who basically told me about her entire experience. Lots of hazing, she had to do stuff that made my jaw drop and I am in a different sorority that has a hazing reputation. And the local vs. national thing is legit. Nationals will crack down on their chapters for hazing. It happened to Aephi recently, which is why their hazing is not as bad/kept so secret, and happened to AXO several years ago, and they don't haze at all now.

By: Okay IGU.

I heard these awful things too which is why I'm glad I dropped the whole rush thing the second day

girls who drop almost always drop very early in the pledge period, for a variety of reasons, many of which are NOT related to hazing. therefore they do not know most of what happens in that sorority's new member period, or the reasons behind any of it, or literally anything about the sorority they were never even a sister of. and as for talking to friends in other chapters, sure, some girls might complain about being busy bc of pledging, but they will never disclose details.

no matter how much you wish you knew...you don't. no one knows any chapter's process except for the sisters, and based on how proud girls are to be in sdt, igu and the rest of the chapters being accused, i think it's just spiteful to judge.

to pnms, don't listen to mean posts like the ones on this site. you will see rumors on here and hear rumors during recruitment about lots of things, not just hazing, but don't listen to any of it! rank doesn't matter. rumors don't matter. focus on how you feel when you're around the girls of every chapter. <3
