rushing a sorority as a sophomore
by: soph2019What are peoples opinions on rushing a sorority as a sophomore? I wanted to rush freshman year but I didn't think I would have enough time with my major. After talking to some girls in sororities they encouraged me to rush this fall. Is it harder to get a bid if you are older? The sororities I was thinking about were AXO SK and ChiO.

This year most of the sororities had at least 1/3 of their pledge class being sophomores. Since most chapters don't do spring recruitment, it's a lot more common for sophomores to rush if they didn't their first semester. Chi o and Sk both have to cut a lot of girls because of how many want them, and axo had higher interest this year too so remember to go in with an open mind about all the chapters and you'll find the one that's right for you. Being a sophomore won't make you any less likely to get a bid though

Rushing as a sophomore is entirely encouraged, as someone mentioned, there were a ton of sophomores entering Fall '15 pledge classes. This might have been because formal recruitment was so early last year and the girls who were freshmen there were hesitant to rush right off the bat. You should have no problem getting a bid from AXO, there were a ton of sophomores last year. Other sororities have to make many cuts because they are popular among PNMs, but always keep your options open and do not go into recruitment banking on a certain sorority to avoid any disappointments. You'll end up where you're supposed to be.
