Im from the west, currently a UMass student. I was rushing frats in high school (that's how it works in the west)and have wanted to go greek forever. However, I was beyond let down by Greek life here and almost feel robbed of the experience. If you want to join greek life do it. I am in a greek house here and still have a blast, its still a good time. Just don't expect it to be like the west/south. Its still greek life but you wont be getting the same experience as the west/south. Tbh had I known this I would not have gone to school here but I digress. I do not regret joining greek life here and love every second of it. I don't want to discourage you from rushing. I suppose this is a heads up to kids like me

it really depends on which one you try to be a part of. some are great, some are not go great. there are good eggs and some rotten eggs in them. so you gotta find the best of the best.

Not as big a percentage of the population as other state schools, but pretty strong for the northeast. Only about 10%. Definitely provides underclassmen guys with way more of a social/party scene than if they aren’t Greek. Really nice and outgoing people. Strong friendships. Housing is cheeks besides like 5 houses tho

Greek life here isn’t anything compared to southern schools in terms of magnitude and housing, but for a lot of people it’s a huge part of why they love UMass. The friendships you form, people you meet, and social life that you get from going Greek are reasons enough to rush. Greek life definitely is a positive here at UMass.

comparatively, umass' greek life is very involved, and frats are throwing parties 3-4 nights a week. what more can you ask for
