just venting

You know what absolutely sucks about recruitment? Never knowing why a house cuts you. I was having a really great recruitment until Pref, and it just sucks that I will never know why certain houses didn't want to ask me back for Preference, but other girls did get asked back. I am a sophomore. I was very involved on campus last year (Running Club, FLC, TOMS Club, Art of Living), and had a 3.3 GPA. And it's like, looking at bid day pictures of other houses, you can't help but wonder why those girls got chosen over you. And I did get a bid, but I just don't feel a connection to the house yet. (JUST VENTING PLEASE DON'T HATE ME)

Obviously they did like you or they wouldn't have kept inviting you back. Recruitment is all about making connections and some other girls must have made stronger connections than you did. That doesn't mean anything except that when decisions had to be made you were lower on a list. If girls above you had cut that house, you would have been invited back. I hope you didn't drop out and can finally put the other house out of your mind and enjoy the one you ended up in. Good luck :)

I wouldn't give any of that a second thought. I went to a formal last spring with a really beautiful/smart Junior girl from a lower house. Sounds like she was in the same boat as you are now, settling for a lower house, etc. She focused on her studies and ended up with tons of friends in her sorority and others.

In the end, it's about the friends you make that will hopefully be life long.

Recruitment is a harsh experience for just about everybody. The cuts for Pref Day are the worst and a lot of girls had all their top choices until Pref Day. As a sophomore you had tougher odds making it into a house but you did accept a bid. Give your sorority a chance - obviously they wanted you! You'll only get out of it what you put in to it. Spend more time getting to know your sisters rather than trying to figure out why other houses cut you. It really is about developing friendships! Good luck

As you found out the hard way, you really need to have a friend in the house. I know another sophomore with a very low GPA that got in a top house only because of her friends in that house in the class above her. It is not a reflection on you, they just want their friends, period.

I feel you. There's no way a girl can accurately rate you with a 5 minute conversation. So many girls slip through the cracks. A girl might get in a house that later you find out she's so weird and unstable, and a girl might get cut that ends up being one of the nicest, smartest girls you know. Maybe she was just shy and intimidated during rush and so she was scored low and cut. Rush is horrific, and I feel like there should be a better way.

And I'm with you on your comment about you see the new pledge classes and you wonder how the HELL did some of those girls get in that house?? It really is who you know over who you are.
