mixers
by: kugreekI dont understand why Ku greek life can't have mixers. Almost every other school that has greek life has a mixer with one frat and one sorority every week throughout both semesters. Just make a themed gathering at the frat for the one sorority to go to without paying for an entire function. Maybe on a thursday? This makes it way easier to meet people from each house. Can someone tell me why KU doesn't have this? Or what we can do to start doing this?

REALLY good question. My house only did mixers with 2 other frats all year (And that was last fall). I have never met some guys in certain houses, like I don't even know one guy in the house. What you are describing is how it should be, but a lot of the frats think they're too good to hang out with certain houses, and they only do mixers with their favorite houses. Example of this is Sigma Nu did at least 3 mixers with Chio but I don't think they did one with any other houses (unless you count gingerbread houses with Theta).

The frats social chair sends out the invites because the sororities can't have parties. So, the frats control the social side, which means they only do mixers with their favorites. Nothing the sororities can really do about it because the frats only want to mix with the easy girls.

My cousin is in a sorority in Missouri at a large university. Each and every frat does a mixer with each and every sorority at least once a semester. Sometimes these are semi-formal type events or sporting events, or themed parities but all the houses after a year, know each other.
I know KU is bigger and maybe this couldn't be done each semester but it should be done yearly. It seems like at KU the individual frat decides who they hang with. It's really ridiculous, using the example of Sigma Nu. They do almost all their mixers with ChiO and don't even care to meet girls in other houses. Weird actually. Greek Life is supposed to be for mixing it up socially and meeting as many fellow students as possible, but its not like that at KU at all. I wish someone could change it. (I know the frats won't)

Ya this should really change to be more like other universities. Maybe there wouldn't be so much animosity between houses if there was more mixing and socializing.
Sometimes I feel like what's the point of going Greek if it doesn't increase my social life. If I can't meet the frat guys I might as well just be a GDI and go to the hawk instead. One of the biggest reasons I went Greek was I thought I would get to meet a lot of extra people I wouldn't have met otherwise, but that's not the case because frats do not socialize outside one or two sororities.

Never heard of a frat throwing a party that other frats get invited to. Most frats don't like each other. Sometimes frats have parties, but they don't send out a general invite to all the houses, it's really invite only. If a guy in a frat knows you, he might invite you, but never does he say "bring all your sisters". There's very obvious favoritism among houses. I'm sure you've read all over this site that SigEp only hangs out with GPhis. That's just one example. SigmaNu only hangs out with Chio, etc.
