picking a sorority, is like picking a husband

by: Truth

Funny thing is... picking a house, is like picking a husband. You don't want to be stuck with a guy for life who only values you based on superficial qualities. You want a guy who knows that you you are really pretty, but you have bad hair days too, and he still loves you. He will be there to hold your hair when you are sick, or will want you to be part of his family, no matter how stupid your own family is. A sorority should be like this too, they should be the girls who recognize your beauty, even if you haven't quite mastered your fashion sense. They should be the ones who hold your hair back when you are sick, and they should be the ones who like you, no matter what your dad does for a living, or what kind of car you drive. Because they see you for you.

You should pick a sorority like you would pick your husband, because you probably will put on a few pounds and have a pimple or two. But your sorority should hold you accountable to your potential, and so should a husband. Both should lift you up, not beat you when you're down. Don't waste 4 of the happiest years of your life on a sorority that won't love you back.

OK this is a little weird BUT I get what she's saying. If you don't want to be stuck with someone who values you based on superficial qualities don't go with a claimed "top" house, because that's all they care about. If you want lifelong support and real friendship go for another house. Unless you are already friends with girls in a certain house or know all your fellow hs friends will also be in that house you will be excluded from forming those friendships. Plus they are all stuck up materialistic snobs
