by: HeyyyHey y’all I’ll be a freshman next year and I know people in theta, kappa, pi phi and kd and I just kinda want an unbiased opinion of them because I think theyre all pretty cool. And any info on other houses would be great too cuz I don’t know much ab them! :) we are all rly nervous so anything would be great

i’ll try and give my best unbiased opinion on each house- just for context, i currently have friends in all different houses and i came from out of state (not in the op/kc social circle).
axo: definitely on the rise, but will need a good recruitment this year to stay that way. for the most part they’re nice girls with a decent sisterhood, and have a good balance between gpa boosters and party girls. most of the girls i’ve talked to from that house either had pi phi or chi o as their second house on pref, so i would say axo is a mixed bag between those two.
adpi: best way i can describe this house is that it has smart girls who work hard and party hard. almost every girl i know in this house is also involved in another organization on campus. occasionally has a rep for being the “weird girls” but truthfully i’ve never met an adpi that i haven’t liked. wish i had given them more of a chance during recruitment since i would say their sisterhood is probably one of the most genuine on campus.
chi o: they put on a GREAT recruitment every year, but unfortunately i feel like sometimes they put a pnms academic performance over character. they certainly have a “popular” crowd and a more religious/studious group in that house but all around nice girls. very picky choosy on who they give bids to, and i’m pretty sure they’re one of the only houses left on campus where they prioritize legacies.
dg: their pc from past years (2016,17,18) were really good and were well on their way to rising in the ranks but i feel like their recruitment just hasn’t been amazing recently and they’ve fallen off. the dgs i’ve met in class are nice, a little gossipy, and that’s about all i have to say. i feel like anybody can find their people there, but typically not a pnms first choice going into recruitment.
tri delt: this house pleasantly surprised me during recruitment, and i’ve been able to make friends with a ton of tri delts in my classes over the years. definitely leans to be more of a party house, but the girls are usually kind and prioritize being inclusive. very comparable to kd and adpi, i feel like between these three houses their members are very similar!
gphi: rising in the ranks over the past few years similar to axo, and is starting to become more of an academic focused house i would say? a lot of kansas city girls that knew each other in high school, but i would argue they take more out of state girls than pi phi or kappa, and gphi girls tend to be a little nicer than those two houses as well. they recruit a lot more off of personal character than other houses do, so kudos to them. it’s definitely working in their favor.
theta: caught some wind of a scandal this year but fizzled out quickly. similar to chi o since it’s considered a “smart house” with a decent amount of religious folk, but they party a lot more. consistently gets decent girls during recruitment, but i wouldn’t say they have a “type” of pnm they typically go for (cont)

theta is certainly a mixed bag; you’ll find a ton of different personalities, interests, and backgrounds. but on the flip side i feel like that makes their sisterhood a little harder to connect the entire house. i feel like each of theta’s active pcs are all so different from one another, but that’s my opinion. connections amongst pledge classes are great from what i’ve seen, but overall collective sisterhood amongst the entire house isn’t as great.
kd: suffered a big scandal this past year which led to the loss of a lot of members (and with that, money). if i remember correctly it was either pc 17 or 18 that had massive sisterhood issues but all that to say, i think they’ve made up for it with the last few pledge classes because these newer girls are genuinely kind people and seem to be strengthening the sisterhood. they host a ton of events and are very involved within the lawrence/ku community i would say. doesn’t really fit the mold of being a smart/party house, i’d say it’s more in the middle. definitely takes a more left-leaning/progressive crowd than other houses do, which wasn’t a deciding factor for me going through recruitment but something to keep in mind.
kappa: massive kc crowd but has been taking more out of state girls with each pc. i feel like the general consensus of girls in this house are that they’re “one of the guys”. big connections with the frats and without a doubt the biggest party sorority on campus. most of them have pretty big egos but i’ll admit- some of the kappas in my classes are a whole lot smarter than you’d assume and get their work done. i know they had some issues filling their spots for exec this year and you’ll never find them involved on pha’s staff. definitely a good house if you’re looking more toward the social scene, but wouldn’t be my first choice from a sisterhood, philo, or involvement perspective.
pi phi: similar to kappa and gphi with taking mostly kc girls who knew each other in hs. certainly doesn’t have the best reputation on campus.. i feel like within the panhellenic community, pi phi has both the meanest and nicest girls you’ll meet at ku. i feel like the sisterhood in this house isn’t the best, just because they have been recruiting primarily off of physical appearance, financial situation, and connections for so long. best advice i can give for pi phi… going through their recruitment and speaking to their members firsthand will make you realize whether or not you’re a good fit for this house on day 1.
sk: i feel like i never hear about this house, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you view it. i feel like their last two pcs have been great, but still compete pretty highly with adpi/kd/ddd. big into philanthropy, and you’re not going to find a ton of party girls in this house. but i will say, these girls have big hearts and create a very inclusive, authentic, and drama-free environment which i think everyone can appreciate.
