During recruitment this year, Chi O, G Phi, and Kappa all asked what my parents did for a living. Needless to say I cut them all later that day and I'm glad I did. I'd rather not live in a house who judges me based on the fact that my dad is a school principal and not a CEO.

I was in the exact same situation, except kappa and pi phi. Didn't even know it was a rule until after.

To all girls who were cut from some house as a pnm: It's not because of what your parents do. Also, it's not a rule, it's just a suggestion. If you're awkward to make conversation with, girls who are assigned to you might try to make you open up by talking about your family, thinking that at least you would know SOMETHING to say about them. It never gets around to that unless you're bragging about how amazing your family is or you're so awkward it's the only thing you'll talk about. Bottom line -- if we're talking to you about your family, we've already decided to cut you.

Okay that might be somewhat true. I didn't want to join Chi O so on the first day I didn't talk much and acted uninterested and they asked about my parents. I didn't get cut until a couple of days later, so obviously they asked me back because they knew my parents made a lot of money. It could have been something else, but I had to put them as my number 4 twice in a row before I finally got cut.

They didn't cut me and I'm not bitter. I'm just surprised that girls think they have the right to do that. Just wait til next fall when someone gets in trouble.

Guys... Stop. Quit kidding yourselves. No one would ask you directly what your parents do for a living. Grow up.

You obviously are a little awkward and the girls rushing you had to use extreme measures to bring out a little bit of convo. But if your reference was any good, we already knew what your parents did. Mostly we don't care because those with a lot of money don't necessarily have a job as CEO of a company. Sometimes they're just on the board of a foundation. Anyway, don't worry. It was your own lack of personality that got you cut. Not what your daddy does for a living.
